It has been a historic first week of Legislative Session 2023 with a major commitment from Governor Inslee to address our housing crisis. His proposed budget calling for $75M for affordable homeownership in the Housing Trust Fund, more than double the past biennium, which was outstanding. Additionally, he proposed a referendum of $4B over six years to fund affordable housing in general, which includes rental housings, homeless shelters and supportive housing. Today, we participated in the first hearing (HB 1147 budget and HB 1149 bond referendum bills) signed in pro and asking for House support of this budget. Carly Colgan, CEO of South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity and Habitat Washington’s Board Vice Chair provided the testimony.
